As in early 2010, we became aware that the IT team in Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea, was once again going to be critically short of staff, particularly in the network engineering group, and was hoping someone might be willing to come for ~2 months, starting mid-May 2014. It turns out this is the exact position, actually even the same chair, that I filled for 6 months beginning August 2010. And the same media team Julie worked with is just as excited that she is returning.
God has blessed and provided in many ways that convinced us that this is His will for us at this point. Both our 90 year old parents are physically stable right now, our ministry support partners have encouraged us to go (including some wonderful financial gifts for travel expenses), and all the resources necessary to leave our home and personal life here in the US seem to be there.
We are just 12 days from flying from Charlotte, NC (May 6th) where we'll pass through New Zealand and Australia before landing in the capital of PNG early on the 9th. Weather may prevent us from a weekend visit in a village where missionaries are serving as translator and nurse before we arrive at what we believe is the world's largest translation center, Ukarumpa, a few days later.
So, in order to help you and others travel with us these next 3 months, I'm starting up the blog again. As before, we hope to post something every 3-4 days once we've departed, sharing a little insight into our life, missions on the field, and what God is doing in PNG, a country roughly the size of California but with 836 distinct and living languages for 6.7 million people.
