Primarily, we (but Julie mostly) will be helping a team in Kupang, West Timor, Indonesia record and dub audio into two videos.
Jon has similarly undergone training for recording and dubbing, having just completed a refresher course with Julie this month. He has also received training in SIL's Scripture App Builder, a program that merges a language community's Scripture text, font and audio recording to produce a smartphone app essentially like the YouVersion Bible app most of you have on your smartphones.
The manager and the IT team in Kupang hope Jon can provide advice and training to improve the local workers' abilities using their computers, Microsoft Office and Google apps (word processing, spreadsheet, etc). Jon will also have time to keep up with his normal work back home.
Pray for our readiness to hit the ground running as well that the preparation of the texts/scripts to be recorded into the two videos is ready and accurate and that godly good readers are ready to speak God's words into the microphone.
We will be in Kupang just short of 4 weeks.
- The Gospel of John video will be word for word Scripture in Kupang Malay, a language spoken by 260,000 people! The Gospel of Luke video already exists in this language and has been well received. But imagine the impact of the Gospel of John which contains so much that is not in the other gospels, presenting Jesus, the Son of God.
- The Easter Story covers Jesus’ life from the Last Supper to post-resurrection appearances, as presented word for word in the Gospel of Luke. This video is an hour long and will be dramatized in the Dhao language. Just in time for Easter, we expect to have this video ready for previewing by many from the Dhao community. Imagine the impact as they see and hear Jesus speaking their language and see what He did for them on the cross!
