Unexpected Change of Plan

Just when you think it's all worked out, things change.  All the prep was completed for the Dhao Easter story community preview for tomorrow afternoon, but now it is being postponed for a week.

Sadly, there has been a death in the family of Lena, the Dhao translator and Ian, her brother, who recorded several Dhao speaking parts for the video.

Lena (2nd from left) - Ian (3rd from right)

Their mother died in the hospital on April 18. Medical care and accurate diagnosis are uncommon here, even in a city of over 400,000 people.

There are 10 more siblings ranging from 22 to 63. Lena and Ian are in their 30s. Lena, who is unmarried, lost her father a year ago and has been living with her mother to help out.

So today I went to their home where their mother was on a cot in the front room.  She was dressed in her best clothes and there was a lace cover over her.  I cried with Ian and hugged and prayed with Lena.  Many neighbors, friends, and relatives were there sitting silently.  We sat too. I thought about my own mother whom I lost nearly 5 years ago.  It's so sad when your mother dies... even when you know she's in heaven.

The Community preview was to be held at the home of a Dhao church leader, but he is Lena's cousin and the burial is tomorrow.

So, because Jon and I are flying home starting Wednesday, April 24, we will miss the Community preview of the first ever Scripture video in the Dhao language.

Please pray for Lena, Ian and their family, and for the impact and outreach of the video of Luke 21-24 in Dhao.
