Something's Fishy

While our weekday lunch and dinner meals are regularly provided for by the guesthouse and office staff, the weekend schedule is different.  Yesterday (Saturday) the guesthouse manager (a local Indonesian) took us (along with his wife and toddler boy) and another missionary couple and their 3 yr old daughter downtown for dinner.

The entire time we only saw 3 traffic lights.  (There are either roundabouts at major intersections or no traffic control at all.  We haven't seen a stop sign yet!)

We drove by the fish market on the oceanfront where fish of many sizes and varieties were laid out on plywood sheets in small stalls.  We eventually parked the Isuzu SUV by a section of a street that is closed off each evening at 6 pm and converted into a market/eatery of all things fishy.

Snapper, split down the middle
Our friend picked one of the many stalls, selected a fish and some shrimp, specified how spicy to make it and whether to fry, bake or grill the fish.  We grabbed a place to eat under a tarp to stay out of the rain, and were rewarded with several platters, plus the always-served rice and some cooked greens.

We all ate our fill, picking the bones (and fish head) clean.

Total cost for feeding 8:  $22.65 plus a tip for the parking attendant.
