It's about time

Julie and I are on the other side of the world after our travels of yesterday (we think... kinda).  We’ve gone from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) -5 to GMT +10 time zones so quickly.   I confirmed this when I adjusted my laptop computer to show local Guam time.

A hundred years ago it would have taken missionaries weeks to go that far.  Not long before then, it would have taken months.

There obviously wasn’t “jet lag” back then.  Oh for the good ‘ol days.  I wouldn’t be waking too early (‘cause the sun shone) and then find myself lagging mid-afternoon.  I wouldn’t look in the mirror and notice the dark skin below my eyes.  Good thing that Guam and Papua New Guinea are in the same time zone.   We have this time visiting our son and family for our bodies to adjust our inner clocks and won’t have another adjustment when we reach PNG.

It’s Wednesday 4:40 am back home and 6:40 pm here in Guam.  If you want to figure out if we’re awake, working and checking email, just add 14 hours (until Daylight Savings Time) and realize that any time you’re in the afternoon, we’re into the next day.

In thinking of the past two days, Julie and I figure that Tuesday didn’t really happen.  We left early on Monday, traveled all day, went to bed and woke up on Wednesday.  (In reality, part of Tuesday was lost to time zone changes, some lost to travel and some to getting ready for bed.)

While David worked all day, we went with Dawn and Lorien on a couple of chores in town and then grabbed salad and sandwich at a place on the shoreline.  Lorien and Julie spent time browsing the beach, finding small shells and just enjoying being "Mimi" and granddaughter.

Great news!!  We have reservations for Port Moresby, something we’ve been seeking God’s favor for.  While not at the inexpensive Mapang guesthouse (managed by SIL), we did avoid paying the over-$300 rate many hotels were asking.  We will be staying at the Hideaway Hotel which is just 2 minutes from the airport and about half what the other hotels were asking.  Thanks for praying about this gap in our travel arrangements.  We’re thankful that God determined to solve this problem now instead of later so we can relax better.
