We're off!!

It's 6:30 am at the Charlotte airport. Julie and I have finished checking in and are waiting to board our first plane.  It was quite a job getting packed, finishing after midnight and getting up at 3:30 am.

Overnight, a bag loaded with 48 lbs must have been in the fridge because this morning it weighed 54 lbs!  Panic!!  What to do?  In the final analysis, we left about 6 items behind including my second pair of blue jeans.  A friend will hang onto the small box until we return.

We were quite proud, and the airline check-in agent was impressed, when we placed our four bags on the scales.  One weighed 51.0 lbs and the other three weighed exactly 50.0 lbs!!  "No extra charge" was a welcome response.  Luckily, we will be leaving a bunch of stuff with our son and family in Guam because the weight limit for the Australia to Papua New Guinea (PNG) leg is 20 kg (44 lbs) plus SIL will charge us by weight for the final flight from the PNG capital (Port Moresby) to Ukarumpa.

Praise the Lord!  We had initially only been able to get separate seats (both middle ones) on the long flight (17 hours) from Houston to Tokyo.  At the counter they were able to swap us for two aisle seats, again separate but much prefered.  As we were heading for the security check-in, the agent said she thought she could get us two seats together, one on the aisle.

As many of our local friends know, we'd been asking for prayer for seating together on all legs of the flight.  God answered.

We still need reasonably priced overnight accommodations in Port Moresby.  Keep praying.  God is faithful and good.

Always.

Up, up and away.
